Winner – The Alford Arms, Frithsden, Hertfordshire

Alford Arms

'I am hearing heavenly choirs! As someone with multiple serious allergies, I have NEVER been so well fed and cared for! They prepared me a special menu (three choices of starter, mains and dessert!) and checked it with me three times, yet on the night I was treated like any other guest – absolutely NO embarrassing fuss!'

'Great allergen awareness, excellent training and procedures, wonderful attitude on behalf of both the staff and the management, excellent fresh, imaginative and delicious food and really not expensive Wow!'

Highly Commended

'OMG! They cook everything to order and from scratch and reduce instead of thickening! And they offer dairy-free alternatives without even being asked!!'

Very extensive gluten-free menu (DELICIOUS gluten-free rustic bread). They seemed really allergen aware and knowledgable – and such a lovely friendly, intimate restaurant. Can't wait to go back!'

Commended

‘Love the idea of a gluten-free kitchen with a small area for gluten-containing foods – lovely reversal of our normal Cinderella status!

Great GF menu – especially the cakes – and really lovely food!! Fab place to eat if on a gluten-free diet and they were really helpful in extending that to cover my rice and dairy sensitivities.'
