'The atmosphere is young and vibrant, the service impeccable and the gluten- and dairy-free cakes to die for! From the onset we felt that we had come to somewhere I doubt that most Tea 42 customers would even be aware that they cater for special diets …it’s just a really lovely place to go – and very good value.'
Highly Commended Love in a Cup, Somerset 'One of the nicest cafés you could ever imagine – light and airy, with incredible views over the beautiful courtyard and garden – delicious food and a good understanding of allergens! The staff take great pride in the fact their guests simply cannot believe that all of their lovely cakes and tarts really are gluten- and dairy-free. And there is a great selection for children.'
Commended
'How nice that they make the dining experience the same for all their customers by offering GF look-alikes for all their dishes. Great attitude towards their guests even if somewhat coeliac-centric – but love those gluten-free hot toasted wraps!'
Cookies and Scream, Camden Lock, London 'Not surprised that this gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free café has a devoted following. They are obviously passionate about what they do and serve their dairy, egg and gluten free commmunity really well.' However, while commending their decision not to serve nut allergic customers, the judges were slightly concerned that their under-standing of the other 11 allergens might not match their awareness
Real Food Café, Tyndrum, Perthshire 'Wow – a gluten-free fish and chipper with a pending Coeliac UK accreditation – and super gluten-aware! But nice that dairy and egg sensitive customers have not been forgotten. Encouraging that 'proactively marketing' to gluten-free customers has obviously worked for them.'
Word of Mouth Café, Evesham 'Delightfully enthusiastic in their approach and very splendid to have fresh, local and seasonal food for their gluten-free customers as well as their non-GF ones. Lots of choice and good awareness of separation and contamination issues.'
'Gluten-free brownies and cherry tarts are good to have but a tasty chicken wrap which is not only gluten free but dairy free! And genuinely available in every Costa, no matter how 'OK, so their staff allergen awareness may not be the greatest, but, being individually packed, both the wraps and the brownies/Cherry Bakewells are secure from contamination and safe! So I really can get a 'normal' GF/DF snack when on the road! Eureka and bravo to Costa!!'
