'The staff were all friendly and welcoming. I had mentioned causally that my daughter had coeliac disease but they had taken note, and had set out a gluten free menu on our table. We chatted to our server, who was very enthusiastic about their free from options, telling us anecdotes about customers who hadn't realised they were eating gluten free, and letting us know that their GF/DF puddings were available for sale (and online).
Rather charmingly, they have a GF/DF children's menu. My daughter is now too old for a children's menu, but we would have been thrilled for her to have had this range of choice as a child .
'The food was pub food rather than fine dining, and it was good rather than excellent. The portions were disconcertingly generous - we were offered doggybags, as there was no way we could have eaten all the food. We had ordered smoked salmon/GF bread (which was a standard bought-in brown roll) and nachos as starters - the smoked salmon was a good choice, and much enjoyed. We ordered pulled pork and vegetarian mushroom carbonara as mains. Both were tasty and filling, though not exquisite - hearty is probably the best adjective.
We shared one of their sticky toffee puddings – the highlight of the meal - though it was amazing to have such a wide choice of options. "Too much choice" said my daughter - she's not used to having such a lot of dishes to choose from!
Breakfast Again, the portions were enormous - though if we'd been about to go hiking, we'd have been delighted. And my daughter was again pleased to have options she could eat. She's so unused to a decent breakfast in a hotel that she'd packed her own, just in case...'
