Judges comments - July/August 2017

'The location of the restaurant is incredibly central (opposite Kings College) whilst still being quirky (down a tiny alley way and then down a flight of stairs). We felt very welcome upon arrival. I like to mention the foods that we can’t eat early on (as the list goes beyond the 14 allergens for us - onion, garlic etc) and I was really surprised at how understanding they were. Nothing seemed like a problem to them. Gluten, dairy, onion and garlic free were options that they seemed very used to.'

There isn’t a separate free from menu but everything on the menu is clearly highlighted as being ‘gluten free’, ‘no onions or garlic’, ‘soya free vegan cheese’ etc. There are more than enough desserts and cakes on offer that are vegan and gluten free including a cheesecake and a vegan and soya free crumble. They offer lots of choice for many different allergens including even nightshades.'

'We had one person look after us the whole time. They were incredibly thorough which was very comforting. Service remained top notch throughout the entire meal. Our every need was waited upon. I was very impressed.'

'Wow. The food was amazing. Neither of us are vegetarians and often keep away from veggie restaurants not because we want to but because we cannot eat onion and garlic. However at The Rainbow Café we could choose dishes that were gluten free, dairy free as well as being onion and garlic free without having to even alter the dish from what was stated on the menu.

'The lasagne as standard is made with gluten free lasagne sheets and soya free vegan cheese, it was honestly divine. The desserts were on point too. We chose two different desserts (both cheesecakes!) and could share each other's as they were both gluten and dairy free. Oh my the mint chocolate cheesecake!! Seriously amazing grub!'

'Very good value. We will definitely be going again. This was my one of my first trips to Cambridge and we will definitely be back. Service with a smile, nothing was too much effort and overall we left with very full, but happy bellies!'
