'Wow! Gluten-free fish and chips on offer all day and every day and all cooked in dedicated pans and fryers! And, even better, all the batters are also dairy free and egg free!!
Delicious oak-smoked haddock, lovely crunchy golden batter served with gluten-free vinegar! Also on offer, gluten-free sausages and they are working on gf pie and mash with liquor. Can't wait! It was one of the freshest, best and best value fish and chip meals I have ever eaten!'
Highly, Highly Commended!
Bizzie Lizzie's, Skipton
‘Fantastic - a Coeliac UK accredited gluten-free fish and chipper!! An excellent gf option available everyday - at the same price as the 'normal' fish and chips, all cooked in separate fryers. Really yummy light and crispy batter - and great staff who obviously understood about gluten-free. Shame there weren't any dairy free options as well – maybe on the next visit?...'
Kingfisher Fish & Chips, Plymouth
'The best fish and chips I have ever had! We all thought that the gluten-free batter actually tasted better than the normal one – deliciously crisp! I felt really confident that they understood the contamination issues and were anxious to broaden the offer for those on restricted diets. Maybe a second day a week soon?... And – a bonus – the fish is sustainably caught! A winner!!'
The Plains, Nottingham
'The Plains is excellent for special diets – not just gluten free but dairy, nut and soya too. Dedicated fryers and lots of separation here – I felt they really knew what they were doing. The food was lovely – tasted and looked great – and very good value! Can't wait to go back and take my kids!!' Just need to make sure it is a Monday or Tuesday...
Brockley's Rock, South London
Really friendly service with no issues about other allergens such as egg or dairy. In fact there is no dairy or egg in their batter and no nuts in any products; they are very allergen aware. Special gluten-free menu on Tuesday when the food was excellent – and the fish is sustainably caught!'
'Even though this is not a totally gluten-free restaurant, all fish and chips cooked on site are gluten-free (yeay!!) and they have a number of other gf dishes on offer – although, surprisingly, no gf breads or rolls to go with other dishes. The menu labelling is very thorough, if a little confusing! Staff were helpful and attentive – and our fish and chips were delicious!!'
Off the Hook, Witney
'Very allergen aware – I was assured that there was no extra salt, bulking agents, MSG or colouring in their gluten-free batters! Also nut free although they do not advertise this. The fish and chips were amazing – and a huge portion! The batter was golden and crispy – the best fish and chips I have ever tasted! Shame it is only gluten free on Mondays!'
Olley's, South London
'Great Monday and Tuesday lunchtime gluten-free fest! Everything fried is gluten-free, not just the fish – so no contamination issues – but when I went on a Monday night I was given the normal gluten-filled menu which made it all a bit confusing. Though I believe they have excellent allergen information I was not offered that either, even when I asked – which is a shame as the food was first class (fried fish very light and crisp, chips delicious, portions generous). And, it is all MSC certified sustainable.'
Oliver's, Whetstone, North London
'Lovely light crispy batter, fabulous fish and great onion rings although I felt that all could have done with a bit more seasoning. But the menu was confusing. Wednesday is gluten-free night and they use separate oil for gluten-free but there were no symbols on the menu and there were disclaimers about cross contamination. Although my meal was fine, I was not too sure that they really understood the issues...'
'This is a gourmet 'fish and chipper' – at gourmet prices. We had a pleasant meal and most of the staff did appear to understand contamination issues. However, we were shocked to see that although they were offering a gluten-free batter, the menu warned that gf battered foods were being cooked with gluten-containing foods so were not suitable for coeliacs!'
