Judges comments - July/August 2017

'On arrival staff were friendly and welcoming. Via booking process I had indicated gluten and vegan dietary needs. When I asked if our dietary needs were known they were immediately repeated back to me along with explanation that the entire restaurant was gluten and dairy free, plus an offer to talk through the vegan options on the menu. However in response to questions about options for a friend with a peanut and hazelnut allergy servers happily pointed out dishes safely free from nuts and advised that with 2-3 days advance notice more dishes could be confidently prepared to be safe for diners with a nut allergy. The message was that many dishes could and would be adjusted to be free from a given allergen, with peanuts, nuts and soy all mentioned.'

'This seems crazy but I must wax as lyrically as I am able about the Indigo homemade gluten free bread. I don't really like bread. I find it the most uninteresting part of dining out. I skip it. I took one exploratory bite of the Indigo homemade bread and fell in love. Shaped into beautiful mini loaves, sliceable but unbelievable soft and very literally melt in the mouth.'

'Each dish sampled offered something special. Plating was superb, flavours and textures and combinations a delight to experience. A pairing of sweet & sour sultanas with a chickpea panisse delivered an amazing contrast that I could never have imagined would work. Incredible.

'Indigo is the place I would bring any friend or relative, with or without dietary needs, with absolute certainty we would have a simply enchanting dining experience. If you do have dietary restrictions, especially but not only gluten and dairy, this is surely one of the most special restaurants in the world at which to dine. Being 100% gluten and dairy free is fantastic but only the starting point since the kitchen and front of house staff are so obviously capable and willing to accommodate other dietary needs.'
